The Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy presents a World Famous Mezuzah and a Draft Presented to the RF President Dmitry Medvedev

The ceremony was attended by Andrei Busygin, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation; Archpriest Georgy Roshchin; Head of the Public Organizations Communication Agency under the Moscow Patriarchate; Deputy Chairman of the Public Relations Department under the Moscow Patriarchate, representatives of CIS, European, Asian embassies in the Russian Federation; heads of cultural centres, museums, libraries, public organizations; and rabbis. The organizers commenced the ceremony with a surprise joint master-class by Russian, Chinese, and Korean calligraphers.

Alexey Shaburov, Director and Ideologist of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy; Andrei Lapshin, President of MVK, the International Exhibition Company; and Andrei Busygin, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation delivered their welcoming addresses. “The Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy is, doubtlessly, an outstanding institution throughout Russia and the whole world alike,” Mr. Busygin remarked.

The presentation of a World Famous Mezuzah by Avraham Borshevsky, a renowned Israeli calligrapher and artist, was the main event of the party. Yelena Modiletskaya, Assistant Counsellor to the Embassy of the State of Israel in the Russian Federation and Aharon Gurevich, Head of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia’s Department for Cooperating with the Military handed the unique chef d’oeuvre listed into the Guinness World Records.

The wide audience saw a draft illustrated handwritten copy of the National Anthem of the Russian Federation made by Yevgeny Drobyazin. In July, the copy was presented by Silvio Berlusconi to Dmitry Medvedev at the G8 summit in Italy.

Apart from the above-mentioned masterpieces, the exposition featured the first and only handwritten copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the handwritten Charter of the National Union of Calligraphers, the Decalogue, Calligraphy on a Wing of a Fly, collector’s editions, etc. Concluding the ceremony, Alexey Shaburov, Director of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy invited all those present to the 2nd International Exhibition of Calligraphy scheduled to be held from October 14th to November 15th, 2009. “it will be the largest exhibition of calligraphy in the world,” Mr. Shaburov said. “Works of art from over thirty countries will be displayed within the framework of the event.”
