Today on May 8th, the State of Israel celebrates its national holiday: 60th anniversary of independence. It is usually celebrated on the fifth day of Iyar, second month of the ecclesiastical year according to Jewish calendar.
According to historic documents, the Israeli Declaration of Independence, or Megilat HaAtzma'ut was made on May 14th, 1948, by David Ben-Gurion (1886-1973), who later became the first Prime Minister of Israel. This year the fifth Iyyar is on May 8th.
The Independence Day of Israel is entwined with May 3rd: 110th would-be birthday of Golda Meir, the ex-Prime Minister of the country (1898-1978) called the Mother of Israel.
Sokolniki MEC heartily congratulates Avraham-Hersh Borshevsky and Izzy Pludwinski, participants of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy, and all Israeli calligraphers with this great day!
Calligraphy is the art of both ideal writing and an ideal soul.
